Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Study blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to the type of material required, and suggest use of specified type of lumber or other material.
  • Prepare layout using ruler, framing square, transit, and level instruments; mark cutting lines and assembly lines on materials using chalk, pencil and marking gage.
  • Assemble cut and shaped materials, and fastens them together with nails, dowel pins, glue or screws. Verify the trueness of structure with plumb bob and carpenter’s level. Erects framework for structures and lays sub-flooring.
  • Construct forms and chutes for pouring concrete. Cut openings in floor panels for wiring using power saw. Measure, cut, and fasten siding, exterior trim, and sheet-rock to frame members, using tape measure, power saw, nails and hammer.
  • May erect, climb and work on scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level at heights up to 100 feet or below ground level at depths down to 50 feet. Use body harness or another type of fall protection when required.
  • Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed.

Requirements

Experience

  • Minimum of three years’ experience in commercial construction

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge to understand and to follow the company’s safety policies and procedures as described in company safety manual.
  • Knowledge to operate electric and pneumatic tools.
  • Skill of mathematics; add, subtract, multiply, and divide units of measure.
  • Skill of working at heights.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

Travel

  • May be required to travel between, to, and from job-sites.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; occasionally required to sit.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; and high and/or precarious places. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Hours of Work

  • This position frequently requires longer hours and weekend hours. Field management will determine appropriate hours of operation for their respective job-sites, which may vary.
